’PLANE CRASHES
COW IN THE WAY.
CADET PILOT ESCAPES.
MELBOURNE, Sept. 9
A cow got in the road of a Royal Australian Air Force ’plane, which was about to land at Belmont Common, near Geelong, to-day, and the' under-damage was smashed. The pilot, Flying Cadet Knox Knight, managed to skid the ’plane safely to- a standstll. When ho discovered that the undercarrige was gone, Knight circled round, and landed slowly. _ He tried to make the tail of the machine take the weight ■of that ’plane, but the tail skid had been torn away, and when the machine stopped the weight of the engine caused the radiator to sink into the ground. As the ’plane taxied along the ground the tip of the propeller was smahed. The pilot. who had been doing long cross-country flights for some time, was uninjured The cow had a leg broken, and had to be destroyed.
