COAL CRISIS IN ENGLAND
OWNERS' FIRM STAND THE GOVERNMENT'S PROBLEM (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, Sept. 14. Newspapers of all shades agree that the coal owners' refusal to negotiate with a view to a settlement has created an awkward situation tor the Government.
The Cabinot's Coal Committee meets to-day, but it is considered unlikely tluit 'a decision will be reached before full Cabinet meets on Thursday under Mr. .Stanley Baldwin. The Daily Express considers it is unlikely that the Government will attempt to coerce the owners. Liberal and Labor papers express the opinion that, as the Eight (Hours Act was passed on the understanding there would be a national agreement, the Government is committed to seek such by arbitration or otherwise, without considering the owners further.
