DRIVERS’ LICENSES.
FAILURE TO PRODUCE. PROSECUTION OF MOTORISTS CRITICISED. (Special to the Ilcrnld.l AUCKLAND, this day. The prosecution of motorists for failure to' produce their drivers’ licenses was criticised at the annual meeting of the Auckland Automobile Association. Several members said this provision of the Motor Vehicles Act was being strictly interpreted by some police officers, and well-known motorists who had merely left their driving certificates at home were prosecuted. The opinion was expressed that action should not be taken if tlm license could be produced within a reasonable period. A resolution was carried to the effect' that the Government should amend the regulations to permit defaulting motorists to produce forgotten licenses within 24 hours.
