Mr. I’ercival John Radelyffe Roberts lias been, appointed a Justice of the Peace, according to a notice in the latest Gazette. Miss G. lilackie has accepted ilic position of district native nurse at Tolaga Bay, and lias taken up her duties. William Heugban, the noted actorsinger, who delighted New Zealand audiences last year, is now touring .America, and meeting with much success. He was in New York in April, and Chicago in May. and will appear in ( anada. Mexico, ami Cuba during October to April, 1928. He expects to visit Australia and New Zealand from Apiil to September, 1928. Sister Lottie Mabel Croft, R.N.. of Alexandra. Home. 'Wellington, and formerly of Gisborne Hospital, has won Hie distinction of being first on the list of nurses who wore successful in gaining the recent State examination of midwives. Sister Croft, during . her term at. Gisborne Hospital, was extremely popular, and; many friends will congratulate her on her success. Mr. 11. W. Watherhouse, manager of the Napier branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co., is retiring at tiie end of August after 47 years in the •empnny’s service. He joined in Auckland in 1879 and was junior in Napier in 1880. returning there later as manager. lie is now the oldest manager in the service, ami intends to reside in Auckland.

White was in the Motu branch some years ago. but spent an interval in Auckland prior to his appointment to Gt.sborne, Mr. While lias made rapid progress in gelt during 1 1 is novitiate in the sport. It .s not yet known who will fill the vacancy caused in the Gisborne branch.
