TYPEWRITERS IN SCHOOLS. NO PROVISION BY DEPARTMENT. (Special to the Herald.l AUCKLAND, this day. The question of the use of typewriters in district high schools was considered at the meeting of the Auckland Education Board. In a report of his conference with the Director of Education, Mr. J. Caughley, the chairman, Mr. A. Burns, said the director had stated that he would at as early a date as possible look into the question of introducing commercial instruction in the secondary departments of the schools. However, he stated that the Department would not provide typewriters. Several members took exception to this. “I am convinced this is ono of the most necessary things we have asked for” said Mr. J. Boddie. “The country children needed tuition ini typewriting as well as town children.” “We are lagging behind private enterprise in this matter, said Mr. R. Hoe.
It was decided to renew applications to the Department- to provide typewriters for country schools.
