BORROWED TO REPAY LOANS. EN-M.P. >H PANKRTTTCY. LONDON, June 24, At a meeting of creditors of Mr. E. Ashmcad Bartlett, who recently resigned his seat in the House of Commons, ir was stated that his debts totalled, £IO,OOO. The official receiver attributed the debtor’s position to extravagance, payment of heavy interest on borrowed money, and the expenditure of £6500 on two elections. lie borrowed £IOOO from a moneylender in 1921, and repaid it by loans from other moneylenders. Mr. Ashmcad Bartlett’s solicitor said that his only tangible asset was a reversionary .interest in the will of an uncle, which would yield an income of £I6OO. His client had failed in his effort to formulate a proposal and he would consent to a bankruptcy order. It was revealed that, the Newspaper .Proprietors’ Association had engaged Mr. • Ashmcad Bartlett as war correspondent at £2OOO a year.
