RUGBY ADMINISTATION.

P.B. UNION EXECUTIVE

The weekly mooting of the Poverty Ray Rugby Union management committee was hole] hist evening. There were present Messrs. A. S'. Parker (chairman), J. O’Neill, A. L. Biliclilf, 0. Bums, A. H. Luime, A. Woods, 0. K. Olsen, L. J. Plank, G. ,1. Jeuue, and W. S. McKee (iron, secretary). The meeting referred an application by Old Boys’ Club for ihe regrading of a junior player as third grade, to the registrar, Mr. Plank. It was questioned whether the player in question might not be on! of the third grade class, and the club delegate countered tins suggestion with (he statement that there were players in all the minor grades that might he considered too big for their classes, but size was not a warrant of football ability. At the request of llie same club, an other player was regraded from senior to junior owing to hick of weight for tlic senior grade. A claim for hospital expenses on the grounds of having sustained a sprained ankle was received from a player, who, the chairman explained, hud been put in hospital under circumstances which were not quite clear. The letter was held over until further information teas' available. A grant of £ls 6s was made in respect, of hospital treatment for' an 11.5.0.8. player, necessitated by injuries in a representative match. Further damage to the appointments at the Oval was reported to the meeting, and it was decided to prohibit trespassing on the Oval in the future. The chairman expressed the opinion that no player under the Union would wantonly damage the stand and appointments, its had been done. THE PROPOSED TOUR. The Waikato Rugby Union stated that it would be pleased to arrange a, match with the Poverty Bay touring team, at Hamilton, provided that a date could, be arranged. The Waikato representatives were already booked for August 28, and September 4,8, 11, and 18, but would be available for Wednesday. September 1. The net gale the Waikato offered to divide with Poverty Bay on u 50-50 basis. Bay of Plenty agreed to meet Hie Poverty Bay representatives at Whaluttune, if suitable to the Poverty Buy Union,* on a suggested date. Poverty Bay was offered 70 per cent, of the gate, and the Bay of Plenty body pointed out that it was particularly anxious to provide jgood football for the coastal towns, in order to eopibat the League influence. Rotorua got a number of big matches front year to year, while the Coastal towns got few opportunities of seeing representative teams in action. The letters were received, and the secretary was instructed to ask the respective unions for an estimate of flic gala proceeds. The Poverty Bay Union, it was explained, was still waiting for information from Auckland, regarding date atid terms. BARRY CUP MATCHES. The East Coast Union telegraphed its acceptance of July 17 us the date for the Barry Cup match, East Coast- v. Poverty Bay,' hut asked that, in the event of Wairoa winning the Barry Cup in the meantime*, the mutch be for the Clements Cup. Thy telegram asked for the Poverty Buy Union’s teems for the Clement Cup challenge. The chairman said the date accepted by the East Coast Union had been one of those offered hv the Poverty Bay Union. The meeting agreed to accept the East Coast challenge as for tho Clements C’up, in the event, of the Barry Cup going south with the Wairoa- team.' The matter of the terms was left in. the hands oF the chairman to arrange, the longstanding “homo and homo” arrangement being suggested as a basis lor negotiation. The Poverty Bay selector, Mr. J. Hall, intimated that- he would require the attendance of the undermentioned players at a training assembly at the Garrison Hall to-night, at 7.30: Woodward, Thomas, Morrison, M. Whaitiri. Carrington, Webb, Dennis. Matthews. Lunglands, P. Smith, Mackay, Sutcliffe, Harrison, W. Smith. Tuvoia, R. Whaitiri, Tasker, Little, Plank, and Herewini. A delegate questioned whether one of the players named was fit to play, and if was decided that all players nominated should be obliged to pass the medical officer. The selector recommended that the team be concentrated for a couple of days’ training at Mauutuke, but it was suited that some of the men could not obtain leave. Tile Union agreed that if the majority of the players selected could he concentrated, tho expenses be paid from the Union’s funds. As a curtain-raiser to the big match on Thursday, a match was arranged between the third-grade representatives and the High School first XV.. to commence at 1.30. The Primary Schools’ Association was asked to arrange a “bantam match.” ft was decided to give the teams in Thursday’s match a dinner in the evening, vvlum the nup will be presented in the evcqt of Wairoa proving successful. DRAW FOR SATURDAY. The draw for’ Saturday is ns follows Seniors: Y. M. P. v. Old Bov’s, on No. 1 ground, at 2.30: Celtic v. Rovers, on No. 3 grqqnd, at 2.30; H. 5.0.8. a bye. Juniors: High School v. Rovers, No. 3 ground, at 1.15; H-S-0.8- y. Celtic. No. 2 ground, at 1.15: Patutahi v. Old Boys, No. 2 ground, at 2.30. Third-grade: High School v. Celtic B, High School ground, at 1.15; Wuerenga-a-hika v. Rovers, High School ground, at 1.15; Old Boys v. Celtic A, No. 1 ground at Oval, at 1.15. Fourth grade: High School A v. High School B; Cultic v. Old Boys, both at High School ground, at 2. 30.
