"APPLE TREES HYPNOTISED.”
“LADEN LIKE GRAPE VINES." “From north to south of New Zealand the apple trees appear to be hypnotised,” remarked Senor Humberto Bklone, Argentine Consul-General, when replying to the toast of “Our Overseas Markets,” at the annual dinner of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation on Wednesday. “In my recent journey to the south 1 saw. with admiration, the trees laden with apples,, so that they resembled bunches of grapes. What a grand lesson from mysterious and sublime nature! What a harmonious j community of Heaven and earth ! Gentle- j men, Argentine imported this year from I New Zealand 60,000 boxes of apples at | an average price of 21s. which shows that- it is very good market, and I am | certain that if next season there is a. good organisation for the distribution of | the fruit, the- Argentine will buy more than 100.000 cases of apples. Do not forget that the Argentine pays annually £583,M0 in importation of apples, lemons, oranges, and £333,340 in apples alone, and it. is possible for New Zealand to become the principle exporter of j this product.”
