STEPS TO CHECK NUISANCE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. To. curb the increasing number of doer in New Zealand and to check the damage done by these animals to forests and pastures, the Government lias decided to remove protection except on the moose and wapiti, at tho close of tho next deerstalking season, un’oss it can he shown by the Acclimatisation Societies that they are adequately coping with the nuisance. It is suggested to tin* Societies that they should expend all the moneys from doer and opossum licenses in thinning out the deer. The payment of bonuses in district where protection has already been removed will be continued.
