THE SESSION’S WORK.

REFRAKING FOR THE FUDGET. MAIN INTEREST REDUCED. TAXATION CONCESSIONS UNLIKELY. ( Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Parliamentary week i.s likely to be da’.l. An effort will be made to introduce as many departmental reports a.s possible, in view of the early introduction of the Budget. This important item is talked of as being well advanced, but the Prime Minister was unable, when asked yesterday, to state when it wil. he presented by the Minister of Finance. Its main interest is reduced by the announcement in the Governor’s Speech that in view of the likelihood of reduced revenue during the current financial year, no taxation concessions may fie expected during this session. Another important question on which there i.s no definite official news is the date of the Prime Minister’s departure for the Imperial Conference. The cabled information that there is no likelihood of the Canadian political crisis causing any delay in the fixture for October has not caused Mr. Coates to alter his determination to keep off discussion of Ins plans, hut lie is expected to make an early statement to Parliament on (lie subject. A heavy legislative programme may necessitate Parliament sitting after the Prime .Minister’s departure, hut this appears to depend not only on the progress made during July and August, hut also on the health of tho lion. Mr. Donnie .Stewart, who would probably he asked to lead the House in the absence of the Prime Minister, if his health was sufficiently good to stand this strain.

There is sufficient second-class legislation to keep Parliament busy this week, and further Government measures are coming down at an early date, though no important policy matters are likely to appear just yet.
