|Elec. ,Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.> 'Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) VANCOUVER, Juno 12. • The English Soccer players defeated he Calgary representalives by seven goals to four on Saturday. POVERTY BAY'S F.LLVT. (By Left Half.) Can Poverty Bay win the Brown Shield? The writer's opinion is that, provided (he team as selected plays Up It. the usual standard, the Brown' Sftield will be within its grasp. | For goalie ihey have East on, a good keeper, with plenty of experience and one who is not afraid to take risks when warranted, The right kick is .Sluppard. who can use both feet, put ■in some good head work, is quick to clear and never gets hustled. Dowuie, ihe left back—the tougher the opposition the better he plays. "heft Half" would have liked to see him, along with Howarth on the left wing.' ; J. Hanna. the right half, is one of the finest .spoilers in the Bay. He always plays a. steady, reliable game, and if near the goal can .send in a "hot one" occasionally. The centre half back, Roots, when tit is master of the position, good both in defence and attack, and also uses his head to advantage. Graham, left half back, is one of the speediest men in the team; feeding his .wing men is a feature of his 'game, ami lie always has the inside attacking forward thinking. Bell, a 'great bustler, fills the left half position with plenty of dash; he is a hard worker, and plays the game from whistle to wlustio. Mapkdpis a good turn of speed for an outside right, mil centres nicely. Armstrong is very .tricky, and piths in some good centres, and if an opening occurs is likely to score.
: At inside right, Watt, though a young player, shows plenty of dash. If in scoring form he will take a lot of watching. Howarth, at inside left, is the most dangerous forward in the Cline. He thinks and acts quickly. . Marlor, at outside left, combines splendidly with Howarth, niu\ is a good h'r.-i timer and very sure. In their match with Hawke's Buy, '-■ each man should accustom himself to his neighbors' play. It will be a I great advantage to them when meeting South Auckland. NEW SELECTION.
Since tho above notes were written the selectors have seen fit to alter the team, which now is as folloAVs:— Easton. Sheppard, Downie. Graham, Roots, Bell. Monk. Armstrong. Watt, Howarth, Marlor: reserves, Hanna, Smith, and Waugh. The above arc to pay against Hawke's Bay. with a reflection, if necessary for the South Auckland match. "Left Half- considers that the strongest loam to play the major game would be Easton. Sheppard, Downie. Hanna. Roots. Bell. Armstrong, Watt, Graham, Howarth, and Marlor. In Saturdav's game the representatives were "all over" their opponents but with two epp ties in frpnt of them thev would be much-Letter off if they''had' a good .lashing centre-for-ward. However, good Utek to the "Bav " Mav thev bring back tho eoveicd trophy, and add fresh laurels, to Poverty Bay. \
