FIRE ON THE OPIHI.

The fire on the Opihi was discovered about 8 a.m., wlnm the. vessel was oil Cape Kgnionl. Fall speed was made for port. On arrival, the vessel berthed at Aloturoa wharf. The Fire Brigade was called and the hatches lifted. Fmetgency gangs were put en to discharge the cargo of 900 tens/if general freight and white ash. The smoke and smell of misled potatoes came from the held apparently between hatches two and three on the starboard side. About one o'clock flames were seen issuing from some timber. 'the Fire Brigade turned a hose on and 1 subdued them. The work of diselntrging is proceeding interruptedly, hut- Hui actual seat of the fire has not. yet been reached. Apparently the outbreak originated in the Duncdin cargo, widen 1 included matches.
