IMPROVEMENTS TO BATHS

PLEA FOR. BETTER ROADS.

A number of deputations waited on the Hon. W. Nosworthy, Minister in charge of Tourist Resorts, at Rotorua, and wore sympathetically received. In reply to a request for a new pavilio n at the main bath-house and the extension of flip blue bath, the Minister said he knew the work was required, and if the money, £50,000, wore available, it would he proceeded with. The Mayor, Mr. C. H. Clinkard, drew attention to the state of the roads, and asked for a camping site. The Minister promised to do what lie could in the matter.

Mr. .). N. McLean asked for legislation providing for a surcharge on visitors, as was done in some spas in Europe, and also for the assistance of the department in the proposed carnival. The Minister replied that legislation for such in surcharge was new to him. and he would consult the Crown law officers on the point. Mr. R. B. Nesbitt, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, emphasised the need of better reading, saying that fhe Mnmaku road was impassable, and the Atianiuvi road nearly as bad.

Mr. Nosworthy replied that he knew hv experience the state of the roads, and lm would help in any way that he could.
