WAIHI MINES.
GRAND JUNCTION'S POST-
TION
INTEREST AS TO POLICY
iSpecial to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day
- The period of protection of six months, which was granted by the District Warden. Mr. J. H. Salmon, to the Waihi Grand Junction Goldmining Co. in respect to its mining areas and privileges, will expire in the course of two or three weeks. Whwi the extension of time was sanctioned the company was given to understand that unless it could be shown at the expiration of tho period that some thing was being done in the direction of raising additional capital for the, exploration of the property there was a possibility that the Minister of Mines would not entertain favorably an application for further protection shou'd such be lodged. As far as is known in New Zealand the London directors of the company have not vet made any move in the matter and if such is the case the inference is that there is little prospect of finding any English capital for mining at present. An indication as to the policy to be pursued is being awaited with keen interest in Waihi, as it is anticipated that if the present company does not see its way clear to resume operations the property will be taken up and worked by others interested in'the mining industry. The general feeliiK; is that certain of the areas justiiV thorough exploration with reasonable Hopes of success.
