SHIPPING AND SEAMEN.
ATTEMPT TO INTERFERE YVITH CREWS. HOTHEADS ACT FOOLISHLY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, April Ik The Daily Express says that hotheads belonging to the Federated Seamen’s Union opposing Mr. Havelock Wilson’s National Union, attempted to prevent 200 seamen joining the Port Hunter, Ilntatu and Ruapehu, saying that if they signed on they would bo required to pay up all overdue payments to their Union. It is alleged threats were used and one man severely mauled. Nevertheless the ships sailed on time. An official of the National Union declared there is no truth in their rivals’ statement.
