POWERHOUSE DAMAGED.
FIRE AT KAPONGA. ORIGIN OF OUTBREAK UNKNOWN. (Per Press Association.' .RAWERA, this day. Shortly before one o’clock, this morning the new powerhouse at, Kapongn, belonging to the Town Board, was seriously damaged; by, tire. Tlie brigade 'arrived promptly, but the outbreak bad a secure, .bold. The engineer visited the powerhouse- at 11.30 o’clock, wh.cn there was no sign of anything unusual with the plant. The origin of tlio outbreak cannot; definitely be-, stated. It is presumed’ that an electric fusion took plaice- behind the switchboard, creating an are, which set the roof ablaze. The damage includes tlie destruction of the switchboard, turbine, flywhoM.arid bearings. The generator was damaged, but is not beyond repair. The damage has been assessed at- approximately £IOOO. The insurances amount (o £550. The town supply, which is drawn from a ijopafftto powerhouse, is unaffected, but till to-morrow night no country, supply will be available, and then only a. limited quantity. v. s■' ;"■ '
