MINISTER ENTERTAINED.

SIR JAMES PARR AT MARTON

(P«r Pres 3 Association.!

MARTON, last night.

Sir James nnd Lady Parr, who are visiting the district, were entertained by representatives of local bodies arid farmers. Mr, Glenn, M.P., and the Hon. E. Newman were also present. ..

The Minister said the visit was not for the purpose of inspecting the suggested site of .the agricultural college. As the High Commissioner elect he desired to. acquaint himself with the Flock House scheme, which would occupy much attention when he was High Commissioner. • ' • Regarding the recent University Commission, Sir James said he had been criticised by some who thought it unnecessary, but the University Senate, adopted all the important rccommenda-' tions of tha Commission. ' A Cabinet committee had been established to en,r|uiro into the possible sites of an agricultural • university and would report to the Government. ' Sir James Parr'complimented the'University Councils of Auckliwid and Wellington for sinking their differences ahd concentrating all their resources upon one central college. Of course, the opinions of those colleges nnd their, expert professors must be' an important factor for'the Cabinet committee an'considering any site'. The influence of ah agricultural college would percolate through the educational structure to the s'mall schools and be a suggestion for a curriculum for high scrools. Sir James E'arr further said he was leaving the Education'Department in good condition and giving his* successor a" clean elate.
