CRUEL AND COWARDLY.

HORN'S CONTEMPTIBLE CRIME

"You have been convicted upon the clearest possible evidence of a cruel, callous and contemptible crime," said Mr, Justice Stringer, in sentencing the young man, Roy Charles Dorn, at Hamilton, to two year's imprisonment on a charge of counselling Muriel TctzlaiT, 19, to commit suicide.

Dorn had enlisted this young girl's affection, took advantage of it, got her into trouble and was content to bo rid of what troublo it might have caused him by allowing her and even providing her with the means of making away with her life, added His Honor. He verily believed that prisoner thought that the means he supplied the girl with wore sufficient for the purpose, all this being done purely for the purpose.of relieving him of some possible responsibility. "It is almost incredible," added his Honor, "that any person with a spark of manhood in him could have committed so despicable an offence. It is very fortunate for you that owing to the difference in the law of this country and that of England, you arc charged with this minor offence. Had it been possible to have charged you with the major one, I would have passed a much more severo sentence than the law allows mo to at present. The maximum punishment in the present charge is two years' imprisonment. I sen not the slightest reason why you should not receive the maximum 'punishment. I. therefore, sentence you to two years' imprisonment."
