There was a decrease of live binlm in Gisborne in January of this year, in comparison with the corresponding month of 1925, while the number of deaths registered was the same for both periods. .Marriages showed an increase of five. The statistics are as follows, those for the corresponding month in 1925 being given in parentheses for comparison: Births -12 (■18), deaths .15 (15), marriages 1-1 (9). An enjoyable concert programme, including items by many of the lending Gisborne artists, was given in the Te ] Japura. Church of England, on Thursday night, in aid of the fund for Iho building of a new Sunday school. The function, which was presided over by Canon IT. Cocke, was largely attended, and the many excellent items were much enjoyed. The programme included songs bv Airs Barnhill, Misses 1,. Wheeler. (1. Fanning ami G. Clare; recitations by Miss S. Newton amt Messrs 11. Gumming and 11. Pearson; ’cello solo by Tviiss (!. Clare: piano solos by Mr 11. McNicol, and Master L. Mnwson ; and a playatte by the Rev. L. 11. Fenn and' Mrs Fenn. Tt is proposed to hold similar concerts at monthly intervals.
