LORD ALLEN BY IN DUNEDIN. (Per Press Association. > DUNEDIN, last night. Lord and Lady Allenby arrived in Dunedin on Saturday evening and were met at the station by the Mayor (Mr. IJ. L. Tapley) and representatives of the citizens and a large assemblage of the public. The Mayor, in a brief speech, said he was pleased to welcome the distinguished visitors on behalf of the citizens Lord Allenby’s name was a household word throughout the Empire, and was revered in New Zealand because of his connection with the Dominion soldiers who had served under him in Palestine and Syria. The stay of their guests was a- short one, but be hoped it would lie happy and that they would carry away pleasant recollections of New Zealand and its people. When they returned from Queenstown, whither they are proceeding on a visit, it would he Ids pleasure to extend a viva: welcome. Lord Allenby thanked the Mayor heartily for the welcome. It was a great, pleasure to meet old comrades who had served with him in Syria and Pales t■tie. He hoped that on their return from the lakes they would again meet representatives of the city and ex soldiers. Lord and Lady Allenby will leave to morrow morning for Queenstown, and 'ill return via Cromwell on Thursday evening. A civic reception will he accorded the following day. THE BIG SHOW. The carnival at the Exhibition on Sat urday added 32.928 to the attendance loconl, which now stands at 1,363,885 Speaking at a celebration on the anniversary day of the Auckland province, which was held in the provincial court Mr. U. H. McKenzie, chairman of the Auckland Harbor Board, in proposing the toast of "The Exhibition,” remarked upon the outstanding scope and impres sive character of the British, Australian. Sutherland Ross, replying for the directors, felicitated Auckland upon its anniversary and tho line spirit of co-operation in all courts to ensure the great purpose for which the Exhibition was conceived. He welcomed the evidence of disappearing provincialism and'the growth of the common spirit of Dominion development. BURGLARY REPORTED.
