KILLED BY TRAIN.
ENGINE CLEANER’S DEATH. CARRIAGES PASS OYER BODY. ‘{Per Press Association.l DUNEDIN, last night. A shocking fatality occurred at Hie Milton railway station this evening, when the south hound express from Dunedin to Invercargill was drawing into Hip railway station platform. A young man, Robert B. Barlow, about 22, employed as an engine cleaner at Invercargill, was a passenger by the train. On arrival at' Milton he Was standing on the carriage platform and was waving to his brother, who was the engine driver on a train standing at the siding. Evidently the young man overbalanced and fell between the carriages. He was killed instantly, several carriagcr. passing over his hodv. Both arms were practically severed and his head was badly crushed.
An inquest was opened before Mr. IT. ■I. Dixon, S.M., when evidence of identification was given by the deceased’s brother diaries, an engine driver residig at Clinton. The inquest was then adjourned 1 to a, future data ANOTHER VERSION. INVERCARGILL, last night. As the> Dunedin to Invercargill express pulled into Milton last, night, at about 6 n.in., a young man, Robert Barlow, a railway cleaner at Invercargill, met his death in a terrible manner. Ho was standing on the platform when the train pulled into Milton and swung himself off backwards with the intention of alighting. He evidently mistook the speed of the train and missed his footing, being drawn under the train. His body was removed from the rails terribly mid Hated.
