LONDON. Oct.' 13.—Sir Ernest Glover (;i partner in Glover lira*., shipowners and insurance brokers, and president of the Chamber of Shipping in 1923), giving evidence before the Coal Commission, said that- the reduction of the cost, of coal by 5s a ton would mean a reduction of £’2400 in the cost of building a cargo boat, of 7500 tuns. 7\lr Richard Holt (a partner in .Alfred Holt and Co., shipowners) slated that the South Wales dockers were seriously hampering the export trade, because" they refused to work the hours commonly worked abroad. “Cardiff, Newcastle, and Hull take from eight to 10 days to load a steanuv of 0000 tons.” Mr Holt said be bad frequently ordered steamers to go to Holland "to load, in order to save time. “I am sorry for the miners,” ho ndded. “They arc in the same boat as shipbuidiug and ' agriculture. They me suffering because other people are getting too much.”
