GEAR MEAT COMPANY.
EXCEEDINGLY STRONG FINANCIAL POSITION.
(Per Press Association.!
WELLINGTON, this day.
Mr. Milward, chairman of directors, at the annual meeting of the Gear Meat Co. to-day, said the financial condition of the company was exceedingly strong and the reserve fund had been re-created bv a substantial addition from this; year’s profits, Last season, he said, although , probably the best on, record from a .producer's .point of view', was, (nevertheless,. one of great anxiety to freezing companies. At last meeting it ..was stated that the values of most products .were then dangerously high, and it was feared consumption might -be. curtailed to an ;extent, .which would bring about, a reaction. Roughly speaking, that was what happened. Conditions began to improve early in .September and everything looked favorable when the shipping strike intervened and shipments:.were held up. It was not, therefore, -to be wondered.at, that a glut-had occurred and prices had fallen.
