WASHINGTON, Nov. 19.—Though Ibis state of affairs is generally accepted wit limit, question, much comment has been caused in Washington by the behavior of one of the bestknown society leaders.

Mrs. Scott Durand's son Jack was recently convicted and sentenced to three years on a charge of burglary. The trial caused a sensation, hut the action of his mother has proved even more astonishing. Mrs. Durand is giving Jack a farewell banquet to-night, as he goes to prison to-morrow. Fifty guests will be present.
