CALM CROOKS.

A £IO,OOO COUP.

LOWERING A SAFI

NEW YORK. Nov. 17.—Lust night thieves, believed to be members of a gang who 'recently had a battle with the police, broke into the sixth floor office in a big city block. Try as they would they could not. open the door of a big portable safe. Explosives were too risky in such a thickly populated area, so they rushed up block and tackle, and calmly lowered the safe to a motor truck in the street.

The thing was done so openly that passers-by thought everything was above board. The- risk was worth while. The thieves got clean away, and the sale contained over £19,0(10.
