NEW ZEALAND BUTTER.
A MISLEADING HEADING
VALUE OF PRESS PUBLICITY
(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. The Dairy Produce Board is being inundated with letters from Britain asking for free samples of New Zealand butter. It appears that under the heading of “Free Butter for Britain” the Daily Mail published a cable gram from its correspondent at Christchurch as follows:
“The New Zealand Dairy Produce Board! lias arranged for people in New Zealand to make Christmas gifts of batter to friends in Britain. Cartons containing 41Ji of New Zealand butter. x\ill he delivered free to any address in Britain with/ literature praising New Zealand enclosed in each ■ carton, oil which New Zealand produce will be freely advertised.”
Readers have evidently been misled b.v the headline, and have not recognised that the free delivery was dependant- upon nomination and yKiyment bv friends in New Zealand. The Board is communicating with each of these correspondents explaining where the error has arisen! II is unfortunate that disappointment should he thus associated with this method of popularising New Zealand produce, wlii'-h lies been largelv used by New Zealand residents since il was instituted by the Board.
