Powell had the presence of mind to immediately catch hold of a beam above his head and hang on while the rapidly revolving shaft lore l:is shirt- and singlet right off. Had lie not been able to resist- the pressure be would have been whirled round the shaft- ndn crushed in I lie narrow space between Iho shall and the wall. ,\s it was, he escaped injury of any kind, and suffered only the joss of a shirt and singlet
