DISPUTED CLAIM.
Tho disputed: claim for money alleged to be due as commission on the sale of a house property was continued before Mr K. C. Levvey, S.M.. this afternoon, when G. S. Bruce and Co., land l agents, proceeded! against Donald Gordon, farmer, for £73 10s, alleged to be duo for the sale of a house to Mrs Harris. Sophia Louisa Harris, the. purchaser of the house, stated that she had frequently stayed with the Gordons, and when it was suggested l that she should get a home in town, she had thought of the. Gordon’s house. While, in England her son advised her to try and get tho house, and! on the wav hack, and after arriving back, she had further discussed it with "the children. About two hours after elm got back. Lawless rang bor op, but she did not even know that lm was a. land agent. She gave him no authority to look for a home for her, and thought it was merely a friendly chat. The purchase of the house had practically been made by her son. John, who attended to most of her business. Any conversation With Lawless had not in any way influenced the purchase of tho house'. To Mr Kirk, the witness said she. had not discussed the purchase of a. house with Lawless. He hud 1 told 1 her that Gordin’s house was for sale, but she had told him that she was uncertain what she was going to do. She had attached' no importance to the conversation ns she did not know he was talking business.—(Proceeding.)
