At a stop-work meeting of the .Sydney branch of the Seamen’s Union, attended by 150(1 members, the seamen decided not tc Irfkc any drastic action at present in regard to shewing disapproval of the deportation of Walsh and Johansen. • Attempts by the extreme element, led by Casey and Lyons, to have all ships declared "black” in the event of deportation, were defeated by the moderates. . A motion that delegates be appointed to wait upon tlie Trades and Labor Council with a view to ascertaining what assistance would be forthcoming in. the event of a strike being declared wars carried almost unanimously. MELBOURNE, Nov. 24. A meeting of Ihe Victoria branch of the Beamon's Union decided, in Ino event of the High Court deciding against Walsh and Johansen, a special stop-work meeting be called to consider what action should be taken. WILL APPEAL TO PRIVY COUNCIL. (Received November 25, 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 25. Whim the case of Walsh and Johansen came before the Full Court the latter decided that as the application had been removed to the High Court the Full Court could not proceed with the matter. Counsel for Walsh and Johansen now have decided to appeal to tlio Privy Council against this decision on the ground that the Full Court was in error in surrendering its jurisdiction to the High Court. The appeal will not he lodged till after the habeas corpus proceedings in the High Court have been determined. Counsel intend to appeal direct to the Privy Council without applying for leave. DRASTIC ACTION ADVOCATED. (Received Nov. 23, 1 p.m.) BRISBANE, Nov. 23. A meeting of the Queensland branch of the Australian Seamen’s Union carried a motion recommending that the union take" drastic action to prevent, the deportation of Walsh and Johansen. - -
