Highway proved himself well above the- field', maintaining, a handy position through the fust five furlongs, arid then cowing away to win with a lap in hand. Our Lay was the first.- to show up, with Scottish King and Highway at her flank. The* rest’ ran well bunched, but were- gradually luff .fnrt b‘Jr behind until at the half-mile., three .lengths' showed between the third and fourth horses. Gut* day set a brisk pace around Die bend, but. could not meet Highway's challenge whop, Nixon brought- flic gelding along. Highway shot to- the front, i-.nt-Piic-d t-he straight with a- lead of a iduglth increasei this to four corning down trio straight, and finally won easing up. Our Day failed in the straight and Mangatoetoe came through with a late run from the middle of the field and finished second, two and a half lengths behind Highway, who was a longth ahead of Polydutnos. Our Day was fourth, Scottish King fifth, K.ingi Pita, sixth and Cleft last. Time, 1.42.
