LARGE CROWD THIS AFTERNOON. With a slight improvement in tho weather conditions the attendance increased considerably during the afternoon, and although the -crowd was nothing like so large as last year, it was comparatively good. The grand parade, which commenced shortly alter 2.30 p.m., was watched by thousands of persons, the display of all the prize-winners making a a very good showing. Practically nil 'of the judging had been completed by 3 o dock, the only classes not decided being the competitions .for horses. the principal attraction this afternoon was the open jumping eompot it ion for winch there were no fewer than 40 compelilors. VIEWS OF JUDGES. DAIRY CATTLE. The iudge of the dairy cattle, .Mr. N. Carter,’ of Wliakataue, said that although there had hern some good entile in tiie* exhibit tin: Cows generally were not. as guod as they should have been, considering the district. the wiuueis and especially the champions were animals of a sort that Would produce good stock for the- district. Many of the cows lacked condition, this no doubt beinrr partially duo to the lateness oi the season. He hoped that future vents would see tho dairymen of the districttaking greater interest in the Show.

ROMNEY JUDGING COMPETITION. A very useful competition was held today in connection with the Romney classes, this taking the form of a judging competition. There were 13 entries, of which several closely coincided with the card of tho judge. After the cards had been handed in they were examined by the judge, Mr. W. R- Hunt, who allotted the prizes as follows E. Fitzgerald 1, D. Sutherland and C. M. Traffovd 2, equal. , POULTRY. Commenting on the poultry section the judge, Mr W. Hart, remarked that the show was a very good one, and the competition in several of the classes was close. Tlie Wyandotte classes were fairly well filled with good specimens, the white and partridge birds standing out. There was a very fine show of American an English white Leghorns, and tho browns were fairly good, the brown cockerels being outstanding. There were a good many pens of Plymouth Rocks. The barred rocks word fairly good. The Rhode Island ™ds were a strong class, and there were some fairly good birds among the Anemias. The same could be S n;id of the black Opingtons, and in the Hamburg classes also there were a number of fairlv good specimens. There were a number of great birds m the GUI English game classes, and these would hold their own at any show no New Zealand. In the ladies’ class tire re were, a lot of birds of different varieties, and almost all were ‘‘top nptchers. Regarding the utility classes, Mr Hart said that there were some great specimens, and competition was very keen and close. The Minorcas were a very strong class, as were also the Leghorns, especially the pullets. Ihe prize for the best light- bird of the show was won by Mrs A. J. Warren. There was a fairly good class of Brown Leghorns, and the Orpingtons wore a strong class both in the eockerbls and the liens There were only a few Wyandottes, but the birds entered were nil good. In tho White Rocks the competition was strong, and the prize for tlie best hen in the utility class was won by l. Crosby.- . , In the Bantams, said the judge, there was a, great display of Black Rosecombs, the three placed cockerels bring good enough to win at, practically any other show! The exhibition of variety Bantams Was splendid. The Old English (lame banHOn classes were big. The number of ’entries in the ducks was small, but the Indian Runners were all good.
