BRILLIANT SUCCESSES. EVERY PROMISE PROVED A LIE. After four years of Prohibition, the number of arrests for intoxication in three hundred cities jumped from 321,952 in 1919 to 515,996 in 1923. In tho same period in New Zealand under Continuance there was a’ decrease of 1036. FINANCIAL PROSPERITY. 753 bank institutions, of which 127 were National Banks, failed in 11.5. A. last year. In New Zealand, under Continuance, no bank failed. IT WAS TO REDUCE ACCIDENTS. In U.S.A. last year 19,000 people were killed, including 5700 children and 450,000 injured by automobiles. In New Zealand there were 138. MORE MURDERS. Under Prohibition over 11,000 persons were murdered in the U.S.A. last year. Under Continuance in New Zealand there were nine. EMBEZZLEMENT IN U.S.A. Mr. William S. Boyce, chairman of the National Surety Co., says: “The losses of the American public by embezzlement are 125 million dollars a year in U.S.A. Under Continuance in New Zealand there were 25 cases of embezzlement in 1923. DIVORCE. In U.S.A. in 1920, under Prohibition, there were 508,588 divorced persons. In New Zealand, under Continuance, there were 574 decrees nisi. Stephen Leacock spoke the literal truth when he. sail “Prohibition is based upon a. lie, and cannot, endure.'’—[Advt*.] 24
