STUDENTS’ WILD FIGHT. DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOR, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) LONDON, Oct. 25. There was a wild fight among Glasgow University students, .when about a hundred supporters of the Conservative and Labor candidates at the Rectorial election allied themselves and tried to eject the Liberals from a meeting. Many hand-to-hand encounters followed. Borne took off their 'boots and flung them at their opponents, amid the din of exploding fireworks. Chairs and other furniture were smashed. Due student was carried out unconscious. Mr Austen Chamberlain was elected Lord Rector of Glasgow University with 1242 votes. Mr Chesterton (Liberal) polled 968 votes, and Mr Sidney Webb Labor) 285. It took a . special cleansing staff Die whole week-end to clear the approaches to'the University. Heaps of garbage and all sorts of missiles had been secretly accumulated in depots .in the city and conveyed to te University grounds. It is estimated 20,000 unfit eggs, several tons of peasmeal, flour, soot, ochre, bad herrings and cod heads were utilised in the horse play. A num-. her of students were injured. One was hadlv crushed and taken to hospital.
