EGGS.
(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir, —I have been selling eggs in Gisborne for the past four rtiontlis—whether sold to a storekeeper or for confectionery purposes—in each case I have received 6d per dozen less than the retailed price. Tuesday's Herald gave- the retail price of eggs at 1/9 per dozen, and as 1 had received that morning 1/3 for my eggs, and previous notices in the Herald hud always given 6d per dozen more than L got wholesale, this seems to boar out that in the majority of cases the retailer does pass on 6d per dozen to the public. The loss in handling eggs from the fowl pen to the retailer, especially in wet weather when the eggs need washing, is surely greater to the producer than the retailer. It wi.l bo interesting to note, when eggs are down to 9d a dozen, if the retail price is 1/3 — if so, I think the prices are unfair, and out of proportion to tho producer and consumer. —Yours, etc., POULTRY KEEPER.
