WAIROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Wairoa Borough Council took place on Monday evening, the Mayor, Mr G. Corkill, being in the chair. In reply to Cr. Browne, the Mayor said the heavy traffic by-laws were now being strictly enforced. The Traffic Inspector was authorised to take action in cases of damage to the streets. The overseer reported that good results had .attended the metalling of bad sections of the Borough roads. The overseer was granted a month’s holiday. The Muncipal Association advised that the Council was justified in charging 10 per cent, extra on overdue electric, accounts.
Mr R, McCurdy claimed £ls for damage to maize crops t the result of a. faulty drain pipe. The Council recognised the claim. It was deieded to apply for a Stale Advances loan of £3OOO for 36. J years- to lie devoted the erection of dwelling houses for the Borough staff. A suggestion that the Council should assist residents to build- their own hoit-ses will be considered at a future meeting. From over forty applicants for the post of working overseer, two were selected for further consideration.
