MINNEAPOLIS. July 9.—Wind, rain and hail took a heavy toll on Wednesday in several districts of Minnesota, including the twin cities. In Minneapolis four persons were .killed, eighteen were injured, and one was reported missing in a terrific windstorm which struck the southern part of the city shortly after 6 p.m., and left a trail of wreckage. Streets wore flooded, and for several hours during the evening were blocked by uprooted trees. Thu Lake Harriet municipal pavilion, one of the city’s most popular playgrounds, was the scene of the greatest • catastrophe of the storm. A section of the building collapsed on fifty persons, killing Mrs. Emma .Miller, her three-year-old daughter, injuring six other persons and throwing 200 persons in an adjoining room into a panic. Charles R. Fiestcr, a druggist, died of heart disease after the wind wrecked his store.
The fourth person killed was William J. Ford, 30, who was hurled fifty feet from the cab of a travelling crane at a local plant. Minor daniago was done in St. Paul, a)i(l fdur persons were injured in a series of accidents incidental to the driving rain and wind. Local storms of varying intensity, fropx mild summer showers to terrific bombardments of hail and torrential rains, worei reported from many sections of the State, at least 50 per cent, crop damage being suffered in Wright and Meeker counties, according to early estimates.
