ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.
The monthly meeting of t-lie committee of the local branch of the above was held at. the Retreat c>n Monday evening. Present: Mr. A. Thomson (chairman), Misses Gordon and Albrecht, Mrs. Batson, Messrs G. T. Maunder, L. B. Lewis, T. G. Johns, E. Lindley, J. Lyle, and W. E. B. Froggatt (secretary).
The chairman welcomed to the committee Mr. E. Lindley, representative of the Poverty Bay Football Association. He was pleased to know that Mr Lindley was an ex-amhulanee brigade member in England, and would be of great assistance to the local association. IF also welcomed Mr. Knott, formerly superintendent of the Newtown ambulance brigade at Sydney, and who is now resident in Gisborne, and bus offered his services to the local association.
Correspondence was received from the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association, enclosing a. cheque for £2 2s; Gisborne Racing Club, donation of £3 3s, Turf Club £5- ss. Tho P.B. Football Association wrote, stating that Mr. E. Lindley had been appointed as their representative on tho committee, aiid also that they would appoint two of their members to attend all lectures on first aid to the injured.
The St. John Ambulance Association, Auckland centre, wrote stating that they had decided to send to Gisborne Mr. Frobert, who was one of the principal officers of the ambulance brigade sit Auckland. Mr. Probert would address a public meeting regarding the formation of an ambulance brigade and homo nursing divisions in Gisborne, and would also advise the local committee on all matters in connection with the efficient working of the association.—The secretary reported that he had made all arrangements for the public meeting which would be held at the Retreat on Thursday, August 13, and lie was confident that t-hdre would lie a good attendance. Miss Gordon reported having attended the hockey matches and that a first aid outfit was’ badjy needed.--The committee decided to arrange for the purchase of two first aid outfits, one for use at the hockey matches and one for use at the soccer matches.
The secretary reported that six men had attended the Gisborne Racing Club and Hunt Club meetings during tho past month and their services bad proved useful.
Mr. J. Lyle reported that be had interviewed the lady doctors and matron of the public hospital, and they had promised to give every assistance to the ladies’ classes in home, nursing.
