TO DETERMINE CAPABILITIES OP SHIPS. /Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.! (Received July 4. lb a.m.) NEW YORK, July 3. The New York Times, in a leading article, deprecates regarding the voyage of the fleet; as a manifestation of hostility or object lesson lo Japan. It says: “The principal objective is not the cultivation of goodwill of our Australian friends but determining the capabilities of the ships’ e.reivs in n voyage of several thousand miles. The peofde of Australia and New Zealand want to see and entertain Yankee visitors, and for the purpose the local Governments have made liberal appropriations. The spirit moving the Antipode,ms has been well expressed by Air. Elder. It is a very natural sentiment,. The Australians are practical, sturdy people, as democratic us we. They, valued the opportunity of being our allies in the world war, Among them are many veterans who will repoiee lo meet their American comrades in France again. The Inteh-string is out for officers and men of the United States’ fleet. The heartiness of their reception will ring out across the Pacific. ’’
