CO-ORDINATING .METHODS OF PAYMENT. (Tor Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. For the purpose: of co-ordinating methods of payment of Imperial war pensions by the Now Zealand Coveniiiittiit. .Mr. C. J. Gilbert., principal clerk to tlic British .Ministry of Pensions, is paying a- visit to the Dominion. Mr. Gilbert arrived by the Atlienir and expects to remain in New Zealand about six weeks. lio is on a- 15 months' tour, covering all llm important count rice of the Empire with 1 lie exception of Canada. Jle left England at the cud of December, and, alter visiting the British West Indies and British Guiana, lie .joined the Atlienir at Panama. The New Zealand Government- pays pensions tu a- considerable number of Imperial ex-soldiers and ex-sailors, most of whom emigrated to I his country after the war. It obtains from the Imperial Government a. refund of the moneys so paid. The primary purpose of Mr. Gilbert's visit is to confer with the. Comptroller and AuditorGeneral. who reviews the accounts of the Now Zealand Pensions Department, with the object of bringing tluv accounts respecting Imperial pensioners into line with the Imperial Government’s inouls. He is also empowered to discuss with the Government any other relevant questions that may arise. Among these may be the method of paying pensions and their adjustment by arrangement. Imperial war pensioners in New Zealand are brought before Medical Boards from time to time, and their pensions are reviewed by the Pensions Department in accordance with instructions from Home. Mr. Gilbert will, doubtless, discuss this phase of the matter with the authorities.
