According to Weddel’s Annual Review. the arrivals of frozen mutton and frozen lamb from all sources into Great Britain in ,192-1 aggregated 12,982,0,8.'! carcases, as compared with 15.125.88:- carcases in 1922. a decrease of 2,152,802 carcases, or 14.2 per cent., showing clearly the effect of tho high price of wool during tho past 18 months upon the export of mutton and lamb.
The total number of carcases of frozen mutton imported into tho United Kingdom in 1924 was 5,0 7 7,05)8. as compared with 0.228,228 carcases in 1922, showing a reduction of 1,150,020 carcases, or 18.4 per cent, chiefly/ the result of a heavy drop of 1,290,9.15 carcases in Australian shipments. New Zealand arrivals made a small recovery of 259,425 carcases from the greatly reduced total of 1922, arid the supply of Uruguayan mutton was increased by 00,555 carcases, but the Argentine republic sent 115,201, and Patagonia 92,492 carcases fewer.
For the first, time since 1918 there was a reduction in the quantity of lambs imported, the total number of carcases received being 7,904,285 againsf 8,907,557 carcases in 1922, a decrease of 1,002,172, or 11,2 per cent. From Australia little more Ilian half of the preceding years’ total was shippea, tin' decrease amounting to 914,870 carcases, hut New Zealand augmented her contribution by 124,547 carcases; and from Uruguay there was a modest increase of 2027 carcases. Shipments from the Argentine republic and Patagonia were reduced by, 148,7(12 carcases and 04,900 carcases respectively. Under the heading of ‘‘oilier countries’ ’there was a total of 18,991! carcases from Canada, which compares with 800 carcases in 1922.
