WAIPIRO BAY.
His Lordship the Bishop of Waiapu is visiting the Buy at present. On Tuesday afternoon lie attended a Vestry meeting. It is understood that it is now certain' that the Waipiro parochial district is to he split into two parishes, Riuitorea and the district north of the Waiapu to constitute the new parish. This will make the work of the Waipiro clergyman very much lighter, ft- is understood, however, that the Church is finding it very hard to obtain suitable candidates for the priesthood. On Tuesday evening the new church wag formally opened. This is a handsome red brick, structure, with a tiled roof. It stands on, the site of the former wooden church, and has seating accommodation for 110 persons. Mr. E. Thompson, of Tokomaru Bay, was the successful contractor, and the church was four months in the building. For appearance it ranks well with any country church in the Dominion, and its interior fittings are worthy of it, many of them being the gifts’ of private people. Amongst the. larger -fittings the font was given bv Mrs. Repefca Kahotca, the organ by' Mrs. Beale, the pulpit by Mr. To Awarait, the altar by the Biripi Waipapa estate, and the prayer desk by the contractor, Mr. Thompson. All fittings arc handsome 1 and in keeping. The opening of the church took place in the presence of a crowded congregation. His Lordship was assisted by the Itev. Mr. Pigott and: four native elergv. In the course of a. stirring address, Ills Lordship said that this splendid church was the finest proof possible of the devotion of church-goers here. The morning Holy Communion was celebrated in the new church.—Correspondent.
