ALLEGED BOOKMAKING.
RUATOREA RACES SEQUEL. SUPREME COURT TRIAL. A young man, Benjamin Bennett, alias Stanley Arthur Hayden. 33 years of ago, appeared before Mr. E. O. Levvov, S.M.. at tho Magistrate's Court- this morning, charged with hookmaking at. the Ruatorea races. Tho accused elected to ho dealt with ■it, the Supreme Court. Senior-Sergeant. Fitzpatrick stated that the accused went lo Ruatorea for the races on Saturday, and set himself up as a bookmaker. It was alleged that- ha had collected a quantity of money, and them left for Gisborne without settling. A warrant was obtained at "Ruatorea. and he was arrested at. 8 o'clock last night at Makaraka by Sergt. Dempsey. A remand was granted until Wednesday next, no bail being allowed in the meantime.
