SOLDIER SETTLERS.

CLEARING UP DIFFICULTIES. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister of Lands, to-day stated that apart from the few settlements where further investiga- ! ion is intended 1 , the work of the revaluation of soldier farms is now nearing completion, and! that early in March should see most, of the difficulties removed', at least so far as soldier settlement on Crown lands was concerned. A good l deal of difficulty, however, is being met with regard to private purchases made by soldiers themselves under section 2 of the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act, where the Crown comes in as first mortgagee with financial assistance up to £2500 towards the purchase, and £750 for improvements and stock. If seeming delays are taking place in the clearing up of the almost interminable difficulties associated with section two mortgages, soldier settlers can rest assured that the Dominion Revaluation Board and officers of the Lands Department are doing their utmost to arrive at finality with reasonable fairness to all, including the general taxpayers.
