ALPINE VENDETTA.

MURDER OF A FARMER. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.! GENEVA. Fob. 14. An Alpine vendetta, said to have originated 238 years ago, culminated in the trial of a farmer named Jauncli, accused of murdering another farmer named Aschwandon. It was stated in evidence that Jauncli had been stalking his enemy for years before be found an opportunity to shoot him in the woods. Jauncli, on the other hand, declared ho had acted solely in seif defence. He said: “Neither of 11s ever left our homes without rifle®. 1 drew first, so where is the crime?” The jury returned a verdict of murder under extenuating circumstances. A sentence of twenty years’ imprisonment was imposed.
