WHAKATANE, this day

A native named Joe Mahaki, aged 21, was foundl dead l on Saturday afternoon at Waikerikeri, beyond Ruatoki, with a gunshot wound in tho chest. The deceased had been living with a native girl for about a- week, and it preyed on his\mind when the stepfather took the girl away last Friday. , Hearing on Saturday that the girl had married another Maori, deceased obtained a gun from his uncle’s house and shot himself. At the inquest yesterday, the coroner returned a verdict that deceased died ffOm - a 6elf~inflicted* gunshot wound.
