(Received January 31, 11 n.m.) SYDNEY, January .31. The City Council, which employs Upwards of 3500 men, will in- future endeavor to have these men reside in the city area. The Labor caucus believes that by this means there will be considerable augumentation of Labor voters in the residential wards of the city. A .proposal will be made at ah early date that a large number of fiats be erected within the city area for workmen. According to a report from the Department of Labor, the unemployed at the end of December in the metropolitan area numbered 3500, and in country districts 3000. The decrease in the metropolitan area is due to improvement in the number of manufacturing industries and to Christinas relief works. MELBOURNE, January 31. The price of flour advanced ten e'hilliners, to £l6 10s per ton. The Auditor-General’s report on the State brickworks at Ilomebush in the ‘ last financail year says the profit for tho trading period was £27,511, the greatest on record. This~result was achieved bv selling at the kiln at a price of approximately twenty shillings a thousand less than that charged by private firms, .
