Mr. Walter Leaf, chairman of . the Westminster Bank, presiding at the annual meeting of shareholders, said it did not follow that because we had reached gold parity that we could, immediately remove the embargo, oil the export of gold. This was due to expire at the end of 1925, and its 11011-renewal might be confidently hoped for. Mr. Leaf asked whether the time had not arrived tor a conference of the national banks of issue, to formulate a scheme of cooperation in the matter of a gold reserve, as suggested at the Geneva Conference. He added that the re-estab-lishment- of the gold parity would be of immense assistance to international trade.
