SHEEP FOR SOUTH.
RETURNING FROM WAIKOKOPU
TO BE .SHIPPED FROM GISBORNE
Those who a short time ago regarded Wnikokopn as the solution of their difficulties with respect- to the shipping of sheep, will, in view of the happenings of the present, week, be forced to revise their opinion. It was popularly believed that sheep could be shipped for very much loss from Waikokopu than from Gisborne, ail'd so 'they can—when vessels are able to work the former port. arrived, but the captain declined to take (lie vessel alongside the wharf, stating that- he did nut consider it would bo safe to do so. It was 'therefore impossible lo load Ihe sheep, ami these are now being brought back lo Gisborne, where they will have to be grazed until such time as a. vessel is available to lake- them to Lytle! lull. it is exlmncf.y unfortunate that the unsatisfactory position •lias arisen with regard to loading at Waikokopu, more especially as the weather this week has been abnormal, but there is no doubt, that the confidence- of the shippers of -sheep in the purl of Waikokopu has been rather badly shaken. Those in charge of I lie present mob are making endeavors to arrange for grazing on (heir return to Gisborne, butinaturnlly with the several road journeys they have had to undergo, the sheep will have gone off in condition. .......
