MR GF.ORGEi K. MILLER
The- death occurred lost evenim-- of Mr George Kean Miller, a- popular local business man. Mr Miller had been a sufferer front heart trouble, and- a wide circle -of friends will deeply regne't. to hear of Ids death, which occurred at- the Cook Hospital. A year agoi the late Mr Miller, who was 47 years of age, was an inmate of the hospital, and later lie took ia trip to Queensland for the bonetit of his health. fie returned' to Gisborne, apparently in much better health, Imt lie again became indisposed, and 1 went, to the hospital for tren-tmont about, a, month ago. His condition suddenly became 1 worse yesterday, and relapsing into unconsciousness he expired shortly aifter 8 o’clock. Mr Miller was horn in Gisborne, and had spent) the major portion of his Luiaine.s.s life in this town. He was edum-led at the Gisborne Behoof, and on leaving took up an apprenticeship with a local tailoring firm, Messrs Johnston and Sweet. Later he removed t'o Wellington, where he worked for some time, and afterwards- joined Air Darcy Ford in, flhe auctioneering business.- In the year 1905 lie .returned to Gisborne, and entered into partnership with Mr AT W. Crai-g as auctioneers. The partnership was dissolved after ribifl years, arid since theni Air Miller- had conducted am auctioneering business on hiisi own. account. Ha operated a, mart in Lowe Street for some) time, later visiting various towns, throughout the North Island in the coarse of 'business. He again, returned- to Gisborne same few months, ago,' andi commenced business in Gladstone road in the Masonic Hotel buildings.
The katfii Mr Miller took a keen interest in Freemasonry, being a P.M. of Tunanganui Lodge -No. 1480 E.C.. and was a. member of the, Zealandia, Royal Arch Chapter. 110 was also a. prominent Druid, being ai Rash Diatriell President of Lodge Turanganui No. 7. and on several occasions was the local delegate to the Grand, Lodge.
Deceased leaves two daughters, three brothers, Mr W. Barrington Miller, of London, Messrs Phillip James and Edward A Eller, of West; Australia, and Messrs Fred. and Harry Alildcr, of Gisborne, and - Iwo sist'cs. Mrs Duggan, of Clnist-churcli, and Mrs Gentles, of the Islands. The, ifoneral left Mr Tf. Miller’s residence at 2.50 this afternoon, a,ml was largely attended by relatives. Lodge brethren, and, rna.tiv other friends.
