An extension, of the period of embargo on the. importation, of sugar into Australia for three years from August 31 next has been derided upon by the Federal Ministry. This assistance will be given to the sugar industry, subject to compliance' with certain l conditions regarding the price of sugar to the consumer and other matters. The retail price of small parcels,of refined remains at. 4jd per lb, but there, will be concessions of various kinds, embodying an advantage to the consumer as compared with the present ainingement.
BRISBANE, Dec. 24. Concerning the operations of the Unemployed Workers Insurance Act, it was stated that four thoused names had been registered 1 at.* the Labor Bureaux through the State as unemployed, whereof 2455 were in receipt of unemployment sustenance. The remainder are not yet eligible. Thci total amount, paid by the fund from Scpliember 14, 1924, to December 13, 1924, wa.s £210.488.
